Pick the reply you would make to what we believe, and see how we answer it from the Bible. We would rather be shown our mistakes than keep them.

Each conversation states what we believe and why, then sets out the replies people make to it, phrased as strongly as the people who hold them would phrase them. Choose a reply and see how we answer from the Bible. If we have missed your best argument, tell us.

Is God a Trinity?

Pick the reply a well-read Trinitarian would make, from the Shema to John 1:1, and see how we answer each one from the Bible.

Our position: There is one God, the Father. Jesus is his Son: begotten by God through Mary, raised from the dead and made Lord, and even in glory he still calls the Father his God. The Holy Spirit is God’s own power at work, not a third person.

Other churches

Churches we share a good deal with. Each conversation starts from that common ground and goes to where we really differ.

Where we differ from Jehovah’s Witnesses

Pick the reply a Jehovah’s Witness would make, from the faithful slave and 1914 to the 144,000 and the blood rule, and see how we answer each one from the Bible.

Our position: We share more with Witnesses than with most churches: one God, the Father; the spirit as his power; a mortal soul; no hellfire; the Kingdom on earth. Where we differ, the root is authority: no organisation stands between the reader and the Bible, and every teaching, ours included, answers to what is written.

Where we differ from Latter-day Saints

Pick the reply a Latter-day Saint would make, from the restored priesthood and the Book of Mormon to temples and a God who was once a man, and see how we answer each one from the Bible.

Our position: We share a good deal with Latter-day Saints: we reject the Trinity and infant baptism, baptise by immersion for the remission of sins, and look for Christ to reign on the earth. Where we differ, the root is authority. God’s word was given once and written down, and it needs no restoration through later prophets.

Where we differ from Seventh-day Adventists

Pick the reply a Seventh-day Adventist would make, from Ellen White and 1844 to the Sabbath and the thousand years, and see how we answer each one from the Bible.

Our position: Adventists are our nearest neighbours: we agree that the dead sleep, that the wicked are destroyed, that Christ will return visibly, that believers are baptised by immersion, and that Daniel and Revelation are history written in advance. We differ where a later prophet and the date 1844 are added to Scripture, and on the Sabbath and the thousand years.
